Stop Making Health So Complicated
Cut through the noise, reclaim your energy, and create real momentum
Dear Health Creator,
Everyone deserves to feel healthy, strong, and alive in their body. But that kind of life doesn’t happen by accident. It has to be created.
We’re drowning in health advice—but people are more exhausted, inflamed, and disconnected than ever.
Too much information creates confusion. And that halts momentum.
One day fat is bad, the next, it’s carbs. Eat this superfood or take that supplement. Try this celebrity workout routine, and so on.
No wonder most people give up on their health goals before February. (In fact, studies show that 80% of resolutions fail by mid-February.)
It’s not because we’re lazy. It’s because we’ve been outsourcing our thinking to algorithms and thought leaders. And everyone has a different opinion on what you need to do in order to be healthy.
And of course, attention grabbing headlines perform better so advice these days always seems so black and white or extreme.
This leads to a lot of contradictory information floating around and people end up going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole, chasing that magic bullet to solve everything. And in this process, people forget or neglect the basic foundations of health that you probably already know.
Here’s the truth:
Health isn’t found in a perfect plan or routine. Health is created through consistent actions over time.
If we aren’t happy with something, but don’t change what we are doing or try something new, we will continue to experience the same results.
You don’t need more tips or to know everything. You just need to start - and then keep going.
Remember - Movement Is Nutrition
Movement isn’t just about burning calories. It is necessary for the normal function your brain, joints, heart, lungs, and nervous system.
Every time you walk, stretch, breathe deeply, or stand tall, you’re feeding your body the input it craves.
Motion creates life. Prolonged stillness creates decay.
A Basic Self Care Framework
Last week, I sent out a framework for optimal fitness and movement. This week, I am giving a more basic guide for daily self care that will establish a good baseline. You can always add more layers once you master these basics every day for a few weeks.
1. Move Every Day
Forget the gym for now. Just move. Walk, stretch, or do some squats in your kitchen. Your body needs movement in order to feel good and be healthy.
2. Eat Real Food
If it comes in a shiny wrapper with 27 ingredients, minimize it. Eat what your great-grandparents would recognize as food—and what your body recognizes as fuel. Aim for 80% whole foods as a baseline.
3. Rest and Reflect
Your body doesn’t recover in hustle mode. Take at least 5 minutes every day to breathe, journal, or sit in stillness. This is not a luxury. It’s necessary. The time you spend doing this will be paid back to you many times over in terms of more efficiency and better mental health.
If your health isn’t where you want it to be, stop chasing complexity. I find many people are chasing complex issues rather than just putting time and energy into the above basics. Doing the above steps consistently for 6 months will make most people feel a lot better and provide a good baseline to build on.
If you can do the right things for a year, many health issues will get better. That will be the time to investigate deeper into the remaining issues.
Take Action
See if you can complete the list every day for the next week.
Hit reply and tell me: What’s one habit you’re committed to starting this week?
You’ve got this,
-Dr. Josh
