Hi {{first_name | Reader}},
I have shared with some of you that I recently spent a weekend in Atlanta studying and refining my craniosacral skills. This is a system I have been working with for a few years, but I believe in the value of continuing my education and training because there is always more to learn and discover. Assisting the body’s innate intelligence in this manner works very well with my holistic perspective on healing and wellness.
So what’s the big deal with craniosacral?
For one, it is a gentle and effective way to work with the nervous system and all of its supporting soft tissue structures and fluids. The closer something is to your brain, the greater impact it can have on how you feel day to day.
That is because the nervous system is the driving force behind how we experience life. Any small change in your internal or external environment is detected by specialized nerve cells, converted into an electrical signal, and then sent to your brain for processing and understanding. This is happening at a scale we cannot truly comprehend and is often too subtle for you to feel. The brain itself is sending an immense number of impulses every second.
We tend to notice the big signals, like a sharp pain when you stub your toe or the soreness and stiffness you feel after sitting at a desk all day, but there is much more happening beneath the surface that shapes how you feel moment to moment.
Ultimately, everything you feel, sense, touch, see, hear, smell, and experience is the result of how these signals are processed and interpreted by your brain. That is why I have dedicated my life’s work, in part, to working with this powerful system - not only to help people feel good again, but also to help them guide their lives in the direction they truly desire.
The goal of everything I do is to help the nervous system process and release interference so people are in a better position for their bodies to function as they are designed to. As this process unfolds, people often begin to feel more whole and complete in mind, body, and spirit.
What is remarkable is that chiropractors get great results while primarily working with a small portion of the nervous system. Considering that there are approximately 45 miles of nerves in your body, about 80% of the entire central nervous system is located inside your head. Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, powerful, non-invasive, and effective way to work with that 80%.
Practically speaking, this kind of work can support a wide range of conditions and experiences throughout the body. Some common examples include sciatica, gait imbalances, headaches, neck and upper back tension, sleep issues, head trauma and concussion recovery, TMJ dysfunction, sinus issues, visual disturbances, and more.
Craniosacral therapy is gentle work, but its effects can be surprisingly profound. The technique involves a variety of subtle movements, usually felt as a soft, comforting touch on the head and other areas of the body. Many people find it deeply relaxing - so much so that I often hear a little snoring 😁.
By gently and precisely working with the tissues, fluids, bones, and structures surrounding the brain and spinal cord, we are able to support the nervous system in releasing tension, restoring balance, and returning to a more natural state of ease and function. It’s the closest thing we have to a reboot button for our nervous system.
Since returning, I’ve already started integrating this into care and have been really encouraged by what I’m seeing.
