The Body Remembers What the Mind Forgets
Why releasing stored tension is the key to real, lasting healing.
Your body is always trying to grow. Sometimes it just needs a little help.
Hi Reader,
As we move through life, we have all kinds of experiences - some joyful, some challenging. Most of the time, our bodies and minds are able to process these events in real time. When that happens, we grow and become more adaptable. We can integrate the experience and keep moving forward.
But sometimes, the experience is too much to fully process in the moment. It could be a physical injury, a period of emotional overwhelm, or even something more subtle like long-term stress or environmental toxicity. These experiences can exceed our capacity to adapt, and instead of being fully integrated, they get stored.
When that happens, we may find ourselves thinking about the event days, weeks, or even years later. And often, we carry a sense of it in the body.
These are patterns of tension that can get locked into the nervous system. This impacts our bodies structure by altering our posture and how we move. These patterns can interfere with the nervous system’s ability to communicate clearly.
Over time, as we layer on more and more stored patterns, our ability to self-regulate and self-heal changes. This shows up as fatigue, lingering discomforts, or the sense that something just isn’t quite right.
Some body-working methods can address these stored patterns of tension. To me, the highest quality care (of any modality) isn’t about chasing symptoms or giving someone a quick crack/fix. It’s about listening to the body, working with its innate intelligence, and helping it release the interference that’s standing in the way of healing.
Each adjustment works with your nervous system. I use different types of contact, some light and energetic, some deeper and more structural, depending on what your body is holding and how it’s ready to shift. Each session is designed to help you reconnect to the deeper rhythms of healing already present within you.
Because these stored patterns are often layered, your response may be too. You might notice your breath deepen, your muscles soften, or a sense of peace settle in. Sometimes emotions rise to the surface. Sometimes you remember something you’d long forgotten. All of this is part of the process.
This kind of care isn’t about fixing what’s broken. It’s about clearing what’s in the way. It’s about helping your body integrate and evolve so you can move, feel, and live with more freedom.
Have you ever felt the weight of the past still living in your body? Let me know.
